Studio Ghibli To Close?

Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki, appeared on the TBS television program Jōnetsu Tairiku on Sunday and discussed the future of the popular anime studio now that the studio's front-director Hayao Miyazaki as retired.

Suzuki revealed that the entire studio is undergoing some changes, and that its future is being discussed. Suzuki said that there have been meeting with shareholders and revealed that dismantling the production department, or dissolving the entire studio are measures being considered. However the co-founder emphasized that cleaning the house and restructuring the studio for the next generation of artists will probably be the way to go.

Miyazaki's retirement caused the studio to reconsider its priorities, which Suzuki acknowledge by saying:

"On what to do with Studio Ghibli's future, it is by no means impossible to keep producing [movies] forever. However, we will take a brief pause to consider where to go from here."
